Submitted by Lindsay on Mon, 07/02/2007 - 20:22. choiceIt took me a while to find a gynecologist that I liked and trusted, but now that I’m not under my parent’s plan anymore, she isn’t covered. expensive emergency tests
Submitted by SaraC on Mon, 07/02/2007 - 20:09. choice costI was admitted into the emergency room unconscious and given several VERY expensive tests. Luckily my insurance paid for them, but when the insurance statement sent me a statement of the services they had paid for it scared me. I didn’t know what some of them were or what they were for and I didn’t know who to ask- or what I would have done if they hadn’t paid..

In the 1940's we made the fateful decision to have business pay for health care through insurance companies. That decision has led to a business model of money-driven medicine, that looks to the bottom line for success, rather than to the health of American citizens. As a for-profit business, health care costs have risen to a level where even businesses can no longer pay for them.
